[edit]Image:APP logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Media Pressure
[edit]Is this compulsory for a news agency to be member of AP? I think following phrase should be deleted from the top of article APP:
- It is not associated with the Associated Press agency (AP).Nannadeem (talk) 21:20, 12 February 2015 (UTC)
Personal Experience Working during COVID19 era.
[edit]Personal Teaching Experiences in COVID19 Era.
When the Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced a lock down in March 2020, I had no idea how life was going to be like in the foreseeable future. To be disconnected from my students and colleagues for an indefinite length of time was an unprecedented situation that I never envisaged would ever happen. This was the time of the year where most of my students were finalising their programmes and preparing for life in the world. I was used to life around students helping them on a one-to-one basis, demonstrating and conducting tasks in workshops. But now I was going to be stuck at home virtually trying to figure out what happens next.
I have been lecturing engineering in FE for 35 years and been finding joy and satisfaction and celebrating my students’ success and suddenly, I had lost that privilege. Being a family-oriented person, I now had my three children with me around the clock. There was a lot of anxiety, and my students were worried about the outcome their qualification. I did not have an idea what the awarding board was going to do, and they did not know either. It turned out that colleges, awarding providers and students were left in a limbo. COVID19 had taken control of the situation.
I sat down with my family and said to them it is what it is, we must stick together and look after each other. The school where my children attend had already emailed me to say there was going to be work every day for children to complete and submit for marking. Four weeks into lockdown l realized I was in for a long haul of uncertainty, so I started adjusting to the lockdown life as a norm. My children were so scared and did not like going out at all, as a result our lives were redefined and had to learn a new way of living. I am normally a person who get all work done at college and come home to put my feet up, but with lockdown it was different, l had to virtually work round the clock because I was not sure what I needed to do to get my students through the course. I had to make it possible for my students to contact me any time through email or moodle messaging service. The first meeting we held on the microsoft teams platform with my colleagues was a strategy meeting, designed to come up with ways of completing all students. It was even more difficult for my engineering course which requires hands on for 50% of the work to be achieve. This rendered adjusting a tall order for my colleagues, students, and myself. There are two requirements that are needed for a student to successfully complete and pass their qualification. First, they must pass online exams which should be done in college and secondly an external verifier must come into college to look at students work and verify if it meets the criteria. This was no longer going to be possible following lockdown announcement.
There was a deafening silence by the college and awarding body following the lockdown. All I could hear was Sky news pounding me daily with news and figures of COVID19 infections and deaths. It made my life more difficult to comprehend the developments and l felt scarred and isolated. I had my back to the wall and felt a sense of abandonment and completely lost. Everyone was overwhelmed including management, as a result there was an ease of pressure and expectations from the senior management and awarding body, which was great for me.
Amid all these developments I kept calm and motivated, and in constant dialogue with my students and giving them assurance. I told my students that all learning was now going to be tutor lead until we completed the remaining work. I also made sure that my students had to be as independent as possible for the near future. I felt I had lost my physical presence and control which gave me ability to monitor students' progress and again felt an element of guilt because my students were not going to get the best out of me and vice versa. Thanks to the assurance from my management who put their foot off the pedal and allowed me to breathe and manage my own time and programme expectations.
